Jamie Baxter and John Eyles have conducted a study of the justifications used by 31 sets of qualitative researchers to assert the "rigour" of their study. As a result, it is an absolute mine of information when having to justify one's own approach.
It is writen in a Geography journal, but is probably applicable to most social sciences (at least I hope it's not being myopic).

by Dany on 13th May 2009 7:30 PM This one is a classic introductory text demystifying the nuts and bolts of the ethnographic approach, especially when you're doing it for the first time. It now exists as a book, "Doing Ethnographies", which was published in 2007 but the 1995 is still online for free and has been used and cited by dozens of Ph.D. students before the book came out.
